If you get deferred you have to reapply in 365 days.

it's a full year from the date you're told. at that time I would assume it depends on what you did in the prior application on where you start.
for me I was at the end of the entire process so if you get to this stage and are deferred you have to do a few things:
* redo poly (expires after 1 year for anyone)
* run pare
* background check on what has happened since applying last
you basically call the rcmp up and tell you want to re-apply. someone will pull your file and start the process.

if i get deffered it will be because i have a friend who smokes pot. But i dont hang out with her often, but I believe they thought I did..... I am hoping for the best, I did everything to avoid this situation. I nearly gave up a friendship.

Hanging out with someone with criminal tendencies DOES say something about a person.

that's true Teeps, however pot is so common these days. I really can't see them rejecting her application because of that..but, we'll see. I think you will be fine Denised . Keep us posted...im very curious now! good luck.

I was told that it is a security issue that i have a friend that uses pot.. They are considering deffering me for a year because they believed she was closer to me than we actually are. My file is going to be under review and I should be getting a call on Teusday telling me weither or not they are going to take the deffer off...
I would understand them deffering me if i hung out with her all the time, but i only associate with her on the rare occasion, and I do not associate with her while she is on drugs. I dont use drugs and never will, so i am hoping this works in my favor

Now i know im going to burn to a crisp i was worried about this situation of my own in no way do i do any type of drug or anything in that realm but i knew that someone whom i may have been in contact with that did do it would send me packing as well now im really worried about continuing this process how is that fair. What matters is we dont do it not that they do.

Then im simply going to have to state that i do not know anyone cause as of today im going solo no friends no one whom could potentially come in contact with any substance is going around me. Man Den i feel for you!

 LOL it does seem to be safer to have no friends. I am trying to look at the upside of the situation, but it seems to be difficult to find one!!
I think the issue is if you are really close to someone who uses drugs there might be potential for you to ignore it, or stress less on drug problems when your a member?? I personally hate drugs even though i know people that smoke pot, and they know that aswell!!

But its not fair you did nothing wrong and whom are they recruiting you or your friend my god im so damn mad you just seriously put so much strain on me with this post i feel like im choking man. I do not associate closely with anyone who do drugs i mean im a university graduate you know how many university students smoke pot do other substances which im sure is obvious i mean i have been exposed to it but never did i indulge or play an active role in such illicit acitivities. I wish they would just do a complete urin sample and what ever else they need and just skip the questions.

im sorry to worry you, I just wanted to let everyone know that this kind of thing could be an issue. It might be different in my situation because I am young.
They also thought that i hung out with this certain person on a regular basis. I havent heard of anyone else being deffered for the same reasons as I in a long time, that is why I was upset. Im sure that you are going to be fine, just dont make it seem like you hang out with people that use drugs.... Ill let you know what happens, I should be getting the call tomorrow.

I just still dont get it but i guess a pm will do cause i mean what could you possibly say i mean do they do background checks on those individuals? Oh i know these people may do ......... but i do not associate with them for i do not believe in them and their ways but there was a time where i may have encountered such acitivity but no more of it ............ SORRY NOT GOOD ENOUGH DO NOT PASS GO! Like man im freaking right out.

I received a call the other day and the recruiter wanted to clarify some of my answers on the Poly. I too had stated that I knew of some friends / family members that had done drugs in the past. All he asked is if I hung out with them on a regular basis now, when I answered no he was okay with it and moved to the next question.
Didn't seem to be a big deal to him but I guess I'll see when I get to the actual Poly. I'm not going to worry about it too much, all I can do is answer the questions honestly, the rest is up to them.

Here is something to think about for those who don?t understand why one would get deferred for hanging out with known drug users.
Let?s say you get hired, you're now an officer, if an officer is seen hanging around with a known drug user does that look good?
Second the job is stressful who knows what you might fall into to help relieve that stress, easily available drugs from a friend could be a possibility.
Third, you?re an officer on duty or not. If you're hanging out with a friend who does drugs you?re obligated to enforce the laws, and well drugs are illegal who here wants to arrest a friend?
I admitted to experimenting during high school with drugs, and the officers were fine with this, what they were more interested in was do I have any friends who still \"experiment\". It sucks I know, but its part of the hiring process and I totally understand why this would be an issue to a recruitment officer, hope this has helped shed some light on the scenario.

Well Said.....
That?s exactly my opinion as well.. If you are a Police Officer you can not.. and should not have any friends who do drugs.. Period? I can see a recruiting officer having a problem with an applicant that has friends that do drugs..

You guys are right. It's just too bad for Denised though. Just make sure you dont associate with this person anymore, and you should be fine next time around. Good luck.

and realize that hay i love this girl she is clean and clear then you see that she likes to do pot on occasion you do inform her its wrong but now what.................its very difficult there are a million scenarios its like saying your an officer now so stop speeding......common that is not going happen you will speed when you have to and this involves breaking a law. Your not a bad officer for doing so, its just your human and life happens. Im not trying to combat or defend what your saying in anyway but its a bit benighted.
