Hi all,

I wanted to know what kind of timeframe it takes from the time you get your first interview to the time you get hired and sent to Police College?

I heard that I may be looking at an average 9 months? Is that correct? Boy...And I thought the military was the only one that had a slow process! I submitted my re-enrolment back in June '03 (still haven't heard from them) but I realized that it is not what I want to do, even with their nice $40K recruitment incentive package.

I also heard the OPP is on a freeze until Jan '05...Can anyone confirm?

Also, if I have friends and/or family members in a Police Force, should I get them to write me a recommendation/reference letter to submit with my application?

Cheers,

Carl

 R U Kiding me, a freeze? I sure as heck hope not. I don't think so. The last time I spoke with a recruiter which was 3 months ago they were still actively hiring. From what I understand the numbers they are taking has been reduced a little. Hopefully someone will elaborate on this a little more.

In terms of a wait time, the recruiter told me it takes anywhere from 6 to 9 months so I hope this helps you.

Hey,

The person that I spoke to that told me about the freeze was an OPP constable from Kemptville. She told me that they currently have a cadet working for them that has been waiting for her course in Aylmer since the new government came in and that OPP won't hire anyone until Jan '05. I don't know why she would make this up...I'd like to talk to this recruiter to get the story straight.

Who is this recruiter you spoke to? Do you have a contact number?

Cheers,

Carl

I already contacted the recruiter, I'll let you know what I find out. On the Bright side of things. I know Metro Toronto is under staffed right now. Their expecting a 15% loss of officers to retirement this year so if you don't want to wait, there's an alternative.

Hey Johnner,

Let me know what you find out about the OPP.

Unfortunately, I want to stick around the Brockville/Ottawa area, so I'm gonna have to be patient I guess...But thanks anyway for the T.O. info.

Hey it seems the recruiter I usually speak with has gone on vacation, which is why I have not recieved a reply. Your best bet is to contact the O.P.P in Orillia and ask to speak with a recruiter. Let me know what you find. Good luck!

Hey Carl, I spoke with a recruiter. It seems the O.P.P are still hiring actively, just not as much as previously. Hope this helps you.

yes the OPP is hiring at a reduced rate--they don't call it a freeze but the annual budget does not have enough funds for hiring at past rates--look to the new fiscal year (april 05) before hiring is back to normal rates--of course by that time they may need a hiring blitz!
