I am far from going off to depot, as I am still waiting for the interview. But I was just wondering if anyone knew much about the experience at depot. I am a little concerned about it. I just want to go and graduate - I don't want to have to be sent back. Other than exercise, is there anything to prepare for? I just never expected that there was a risk of being sent back as long as you were determined, but increasingly I am hearing horror stories of people not graduating. Just wondering.

Depot is in the business of turning cadets into RMs. They only send people home for really good reasons. The attrition rate is somewhere between 5-10% and that includes people calling it quits on their own accord. If you are having difficulty with something, there are lots of opportunities for extra practice and instruction. Unless you have poor performance in a number of different areas, your worst case scenario is being back trooped. Which, though it does suck, is not the end of the world.

Thanks. That's really reassuring. I do plan to work really hard once I get there, it's just that I would hate to be sent back. I would be devastated. Kinda crazy that I'm this worried about it right now - I mean, like I said, I still have not had an interview.

My added concern is the PARE that you have to do right when you arrive there, and the 4:00 time limit or else they send you home. I just didn't feel that it would be that rigid, after all, you're there for 6 months as they help you with the PARE, among other things, so why would you have to get 4:00 right away? I figured, as long as you showed determination and progress, they'll work with you. Just a thought.

The first pare at Depot is 4:45, the second one (about the half way mark) is when you have to make it in under 4:00.
Also, according to sources in the know, there are now re-tests for the the Pare. If you fail a Pare, you can re-test two days later, just like everything else. You should really be working on the Pare though. My understanding is that recruiting won't send anyone to Depot if they are slower than 4:20 on their final Pare during the BGI.

Are you absolutely sure its 4:45 while at depot? I got the phone call from the RCMP recruiter who asked me the routine pre-interview questions today and he made it clear that I really need to work on the PARE, as my time was 4:20. He said you need to get 4:00 at depot. Maybe they tell you that you need to get 4:00 right away so that you work harder at it (which is working). Not sure what to believe. Just want a definitive answer; I really want to believe that its 4:45 initially, and then, like you said, 4:00 at the halfway mark.

Honestly it's sort of a moot point as you really should be under 4 minutes anyway. Why go to Depot with the minimum fitness level allowed? I really wouldn't be sweating about a few seconds here or there. Eliminate the concern by training and getting a time under 3.5 minutes.

I honestly don't think anyone should be going to Depot with a Pare time over 4, but thats me. If you are worried about a 4:45 Pare, PT is going to kick your ass. People also typically gain Pare time when they get to Depot. The PT staff are stricter, the thin air, pressure of being at Depot etc etc.

I'm not worried about 4:45 but I am worried about 4:00. With training at depot I figure I could do it. I was just concerned about doing it right away at depot.
