Hi, today I went for my Pati/Wct/Prep. The first two were actually easier than I'd thought, but get this....they wouldn't let me to the Prep (the one I'd been killing myself over!) because my blood pressure was too high. He said, "just take a few deep breaths and we'll do it again." Second time, higher! I had 1/2 cup of coffee in the morning, and drink it regularly most days...but would that be enough to raise it over their max? I was pretty upset with myself when I was told I couldn't do the prep 'til my doctor signs some paperwork. I'm not about to give up, but what if I never get my rate down!? I never thought this would become an issue. Geesh, I'm only 28.

Don't worry there could be many reasons why your blood pressure would be high get checked by your doctor and he/she will fill out the necessary paper work and you should be good to go. The Prep isn't that bad so don't stress about it.So now do you have to go to a different area to do the PREP or is there another session near you soon? Also now do you have to wait for you test results until you complete the PREP portion of the testing? Good luck

My buddy from work happened to have two red-bulls before we showed up for the test. Get this - his blood pressure was lower than mine when it came to it.
Stress, anxiety, diet, fitness level, history of high blood pressure levels - those are the things you should consider.
Good luck

eat bananas and drink at least 2 litres of water the day before the test so says one of my instructors helping me train for PREP and PARE.
Good luck.

Great advice already given; don't forget to get your sleep. Instead of changing everything (eating, sleeping habits) the day before; start earlier in the week so your body is on the same page as your mind.
Being nervous (who isn't) also increases BP, not much you can do there. If your well rested/hydrated it should work in your favor. Prior to BP check, find a quiet place where you can sit alone and relax.

Hi...thanks for all your advice, some useful stuff. I didn't eat much of a breakfast, and had 1/2 a cup of coffee six hours before the bp was taken...
I know everyone gets nervous, but I was cool as a cucumber - I was a bit nervous before doing the written part of the test, but now we were on to the fun, physically challenging part of the test!
I wanna' know if any of you health nuts can answer a critical question for me: what affect would Creatine have one one's bp? No rolling eyes, or preaching, I just need facts. I've read that it greatly raises ones bp...even last night I went to Shopper's, feeling pretty calm, and it read 133/69. I've checked my own rates before, and they were never this high, it's got to have someone to do with the creatine eh...I haven't touched the stuff since...and am gonna' try the tuna/beans approach...
Thanks all for replying so quickly.
Peace.

Creatine - I've read/heard it can take months for it to start working. If so, it depends on the individual.
Almonds have been known to help lower BP. I found this link; lists 7 foods to help lower BP - not bad foods either: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21794240/
Keep doing what your doing; eat well and keep checking your BP - the only eye rolling might be Shopper's employees, wondering why a young guy keeps checking his BP, lol!

Hi
Wortman, thanks for the almond advice. I do recall reading that in an old man's magazine or something. lol
I had only been using the Creatine for about a month...I honestly noticed a little improvement in my body, but when I seen the impact it was having on my heart, I stopped.

Hi there
Creatine is a molecule in the body that produces energy in the muscles. It also produces Creatinine which is generated from muscle metabolism. If you have Kidney troubles, your Creatine levels in your blood may rise. Hi levels are good indicators of Kidney troubles.
If you are into body building, it is used as a supplement to produce energy quickly..you can train harder, more often and get quicker results. Did you do this?
Supplemental Creatin is considered safe but there are questions as to some side effects like Kidney damage, heart problems muscle cramps, pulls. There is really no connection to high blood pressure unless you've been taking it in extrememly high doses. A simple blood test will show you where your levels are at.
Hope this helps.

The morning of mine @ 7am I had a Tim's x-tra large & my blood pressure was way outta whack. Got the doc's note, obviously didn't consume any caffiene that day & my blood pressure was perfect.
Make sure you explain it to your doc. because the form they (the recruiters) give you is a bit obscure & my doc almost had me drop trow.
Mind you, I am quite handsome so who knows?
