hello,

Just curious if anyone else at the moment is going through background check with the OPP. If yes, how long does it take and how soon after if all goes well would you expect to get a job offer? Does anyone know when the next OPC class is?

I am not sure about the OPP - but the Background can take as little as 2-weeks to 2-months (depending on the person), then you have the Psychological Test, then Psych. Interview, then you are offered a position. The next OPC Class is September.

Thanks for that. i have already done the other things. I need to give 6 weeks notice. I just hope they dont offer me a job with only weeks to go. If I cannot attend, do they hold it for the next class and if yes, give me a lot of warning?

To be completely honest if you do not take the offer of employment when it is offered you will lose the offered position + not offered the next class. A friend is at OPC right now - and was forced to give his current employer 3-days notice. Think - That if you say \"no - or you have to wait for 6-weeks, there are alot of people that would love your space.\"

If you feel that your chances are good - then \"give your notice\" or take your chances with the recruiter.

I've just accepted my offer but was told that all police services in Ontario are waiting to receive funding from the provincial government for their August/September recruit classes....if they do not receive funding by August, then I will have to wait to start in December/January. Has anyone else heard/been told the same with your service?

By the way, I've given in a tentative resignation (over 5 weeks notice) with my current employer. Told them that I may have to leave at any time with little notice....at least I am somewhat covered should I have to leave right away for that August class.

Never heard of anyone being told that - all the Police Forces in Ontario have most if not all spaces filled for September and most have already signed the contracts and have started for their January Class.

Just my opinion...............

That's bizarre but thanks for your opinion bdv. They told me that I was in their next recruit class. But they couldn't confirm if they could go ahead with their Sept. class until they sorted this government budget problem. Hopefully it will all get sorted out and I will be on my way to OPC for Sept. :)

i HAVE BEEN GOING THROUGH THE BACKGROUND CHECKS FOR APPROX 1 MONTH NOW. I HAVE SPOKEN TO THE OFFICER DOING MY BACKGROUND AND OTHER DEPTS WHO HAVE SAID THAT IF THEY GET MY CHECKS ETC DONE VERY SOON, I AM ELIGABLE TO ATTEND IN SEPT OR IF I MISS THAT IT WILL BE IN JAN 2006. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THERE IS A CLASS IN SEPT AND JAN.
I HAVE BEEN TOLD TO RING UP AT THE END OF THE MONTH AND WILL BE UPDATED.
I HAVE NOT YET RECEIVED ANY JOB OFFER BUT IM SURE THAT SHOUDL COME ONCE MY APPLICATION HAS BEEN REVIEWED. I AM CURRENTLY AN OFFICER IN THE UK AND CANT WAIT TO GET OVER. I HATE THE WAITING GAME AS I HAVE A LOT TO OFFER.

YOU SHOULD BE LUCKY AS YOU HAVE RECIEVED A JOB OFFER.

I was just told that York will not be sending any officers in the September class and will be sending one large class for January. Not exactly sure what happened - but that is what I was told.

Just what I was told..............

Good luck.

I guess some forces will not take people in Sept. I will hope to be there in Jan (finger crossed)

I also heard that the Fee that Recruits will pay to go to OPC will be $10,000.00 in December's class.

That's exactly what I was told a month ago....it's too bad that this only made the news now. Had it been out in the media a month ago, perhaps the government would have felt pressured into resolving this issue sooner. York has told me to wait by the phone and be prepared because I could start as early as next Monday if this gets resolved this week. That will leave me with less than a couple of days of notice to give my current employer....it's not a very nice situation to be in let me tell you.

I've also heard that tuition for OPC is going up to 10K in January.

Just to confirm, I spoke with a recruiter about getting a 'last minute' job offer for a class and she insisted that they are used to people having to say 'no' to an offer because it's too last minute and that you just go back into the pool for the next time around and your application is not prejudiced in any way. She also added that they would 'flag up' your file to show you needed more notice (eg for people in the military or teachers etc...) and they would try and get an offer out in plenty of time next time. She was quite insistent about the fact that they understand people can't just drop everything on a day's (or three's!) notice but that some can and that's fine either way.

A buddy of mine just got on with the OPP and before he left for OPC he was reviewing all the papers he had recieved from them before getting the offer of employment and the date that showed on his first letter was 2.5 yrs ago. He was in the backgroud stage for almost a month. Its really odd b/c he doesnt have anything negative in his background. So i guess you never know how long it can take...I have been waiting almost 6 months for my psych test...SO yah ... Best of luck to you all

Hello

I have been in the background stage since Jan. I spoke the the the background recruiter in June as I was going to get into the Spet class(I thought I was). The recruiter took some annual leave before the September class and didnt get all my paperwork completed(ref checks) and now I have been told that she is sorting out my stuff doing a report and then will speak to me before being put forward re review board. I expect to be rushed through again hopefully by the end of the month and a job offer by end of October if all goes to plan.
