hey...I am doing my testing for the first time ever this month and I want the truth from someone who has taken the PATI. I work with guys who constantly renew their cert and have worked with guys who now work for TPS. They all say it's nothing to worry about, and morons can do the work...you'll be fine. I want to know how hard the math is, and what to really focus on. I don't really trust thier statements..but find myself wondering if it's true. Please fill me in!

Hello Jen,
I've seen simple mathematics calculations on police tests. Some questions are decimal based and some are fraction based. Your score depends on how good your basic mathematics skills are! Most of the question are based on simple multiplication, division, addition and subtraction.

I must ay that some of the equations in theses tests are difficult, simply because I havn't used this in many years since grade 10. So I am a little worried. But thanks for your advise.

No problems, I will be glad to help on that type of equations.

Hi J. I'm not sure when you are testing but I can give you some advice as I have actually taken the PATI recently and passed. Make sure you refresh your memory when it comes to Algebra as well as fractions and problem solving. Also...read the questions SLOWLY....they some times will throw tricks in and if you read too fast wil not catch it. Also remember there is more than math involved. Mapping and Syllogisms can be tough for some people as well. If you are on the Police Prep site and scoring between 80 and 90% then you will be fine.
Also keep in mind...the time constraint can be tough on some people..especially if you haven't been in a school atmosphere for a while. So keep an eye on the time.
Good luck!!
