Hi I just wanted to say hi everyone and take the time to introduce myself. My name is Peggy and 34 years young and finally in a time in my life where I feel I have confidence to follow my dream to become a police officer. I orginally had applied for Law and Security when I was applying to college about 15 years ago however I chose business now however I feel I am ready for this. I had always admired women who became police officers and envied them.

So I have done a few test and feeling a little discouraged in terms of the timing. I need to brush up on math skills and went and purchased a Math book at Chapters over the weekend so will see if that helps.

In terms of the physical portion I am doing well been practising the beep test and have reach just over 6 and doing strength training. Any advice on the 150lb dummy?

I welcome any words of wisdom.

Thanks

Welcome Peggy!

Seems to me like you are on the right track! This site helped me pass the test and I had a friend who understood the math very well helping me also with problems that were sort of fuzzy; so if you know anyone who's great at math then utilize their brains... all the help counts!

As for the dummy pull... you're legs will burn no matter how hard you prepare for this portion. I'd suggest lunges, squats and uphill running though if you want to get an edge on it. I find most people struggle with the push/pull and the dummy so if your cardio is in good shape, I'd always suggest a quicker pace through the stairs/wall to allow you more time incase you need to do an extra arc on the machine.

If you have any more questions, feel free to PM me or post up in here

My trainer suggest sprints. Do the 20m in a sprint and do as many as you can. This will improve so that for the beep test it will be a breeze.
As for the 150lbs dummy it's really all about grip and position. You need to almost put yourself is a squat position and lock your arm at your waist and pull. This utilizes your legs. I have to problems and I'm 125lbs woman.Good luck.

advice for the dummy: try to reduce (dragging) friction as much as you can. I found it easier to drag the dummy while having most of his body off the floor.. his head has to be pretty much between your knees (keep your back straight) as you are dragging it. Rest of his upper body is off the ground at that point and only his lower half of the body is dragging on the floor..

another tip with the shuttle run... try pick someone that is good at it and try to keep up with that person. It personally motivated me and kept me going even when I thought I couldn't any more..

Hello Peggy, welcome. I am 37 and I ALSO am persuing this after a few years of consideration. I was laid off in March and I decided that I am going to persue a life in law enforcement. AFTER I pass the exam next month! :-)

I think it is important to look at Syllogisms, they are tricky as well.

To practice the dummy drag I purcased two bags of cement (buy two that combined will be close to 150lbs cost about $6). Then found a pair of coveralls put the bags inside. Made the wrist's as close to actual size and would drag it backwards around the yard. I found it works exact muscles as the real test and my legs were fine for the shuttle run. Just the way I prepared and felt it worked good luck a lot of mind over matter and never give up attitude and you will be just fine.

That is great, I am glad that age isn't a factor. :) Where are you writing your exam? How long have been studying? I was planning on doing mine Oct24 but not sure if I will be ready.

Yes I agree syllomgisms are tricky and advice?

WOW that is impressive right now I am just using a machine the gym and pulling it at a 170lbs but not 15meters.

I am doing my shuttle run than my weights, do recommend switching to weights than shuttle run?

Mind over matter very helpful and keeping my head up :) Thanks
