Hi,

I am testing with ATS Nov. 15th and I was wondering how long it will take to get hired with TPS?
(Assuming I pass WCT/PREP/PATI AND BPAD)

Also, please let me know what obstacles I could face, if any during the process.

I am hoping to join the next OPC intake. Is this possible?

Next OPC intake would be Jan.

Which would be slim to none chance with TPS.

Are you doing all the testing in one day?

The people going for the January intake will likely be in background and medical stages before you even get your COR. The process for most services is between 6 months and 1 year (or more).

As far as obstacles?? Boy do you have some research to do!!!

Not to be rude but if you do some reading on this site, I think you might find the answers you are looking for.

Good luck

Sorry, I meant March intake (not Dec/Jan).

In terms of obstacles I meant like the immunization that needs to be done.

Intake is April/may. You would have to have some pretty favorable background to move through that quickly with TPS... .but yep you can do it.

All services will look at your work record and what you are doing right now.

Absolutely they want to see that you have been doing something with your life.

PEEL and RCMP are not on hiring freezes at all. Peel has a huge pool of applications that it takes time, but they send a decent class. RCMP is advertising everywhere about the huge hiring spree they are on.

Currently a C/Contract worker with RCMP...

RCMP is DEFINITELY not on a hiring freeze!! Far from it!

2010 is a busy year for the Federal Budget... Olympics, G8 Summit, Queens Visit... so keep in mind... they're pooling their resources to focus on some pretty critical issues... causing some other areas including recruitment and selection to become a little less of their immediate priority - still hiring... the process for 2010 might be a little slower however! :)

Attrition rates are always a Force to be Reckoned with! - The mass exodus of retirees and also lateral transfers here and there will continue to put pressure on the need to hire, or at least maintain a good applicant pool in which they can select from! Don't be descouraged!

Just as an fyi..TPS is decreasing its class sizes considerably..less ppl retiring, less budget..the background check can be more or less lenghty, depending on your personal history, ie if you were born abroad, if your references get back to the officer doing the check quickly, etc etc.
Cheers.

Your right about OPC and a COR = certificate of results which is the same thing as the OACP certificate.(Ontario association of chiefs of police)

The RCMP process sure has crawled almost to a stop, for myself at least........seems to be an operational slowdown........difficult to deal with as you're just waiting and waiting......

not to discourage anyone, Al RHill's comment is not unique. My application has been active with the RCMP since last July. I did get a call stating my application was forwarded to the poly examiner and that I should get an interview anytime now. That call was in December.

If you call RCMP recruiting today they will state at least 2yrs for the process to be completed - when I submitted I was told at least a 1yr.

Still waiting for TPS to call.

The best advice I can give is to get the application submitted sooner rather than later. You can't play the game until you ante in.

Good luck
