I was just wondering whether anyone knows if height/weight plays an important factor in the selection process. Do you gain points for being a certain weight or height? Another question I have is who are some of the younger people here going through this process and how young are you. I am 23 years old, is that really young to be applying?
Any Feedback is Great Feedback
Thank You Everyone who reads and leaves a message
I would say that while size / weight is not as important as it used to be. I cannot imagine the recruiters not \"sizing you up\" during your LFI and making a partial opinion on those factors. It may not be a final decision - but could be the \"straw\" if you know what I mean.
With regards to age - I would say that you are pretty young. I have been told that there has been hires of that age and younger - but it is based on personal experience and maturity - I know nothing about you so cannot guess. The only thing I can say is that I was told that last OPC class the average age was 29 and this class was the same.
Just my opinion............

I know lots of people who are between the ages of 21-25 that are on police forces, and have been on for a few years, and Im 23 too, so Im hoping I get on too, you might as well try at that age, you never know..
Don't take my posting the wrong way - I say go ahead and apply; all I was stating was facts - While there are younger officers on the forces to use the word \"alot\" would be a lie. Recruiters are looking for life experience and independece (not living at home; financially stable; etc.) and \"most\" 23-Years olds or younger are not at that stage - normally because of school and other factors. When the average age at the entire OPC was 29 - that should give you an idea right there.
Just my opinion................

There are many other factors in which people get hired on aswell. Age matters but if you speak another language or several languages and are able to communicate effectively in all manors of those languages, you may get pushed through quicker. Army experience also comes into play. Army CO-Ops, ride alongs, schooling, age, sex, colour, fitness level.
Certainly life expereince plays a role. Unfortunatley many of use do not know why some 19 year olds get hired while thirty year olds do not.
Size, height and weight and all that other physical attributes are all thrown out the window, as long as you can carry your weight around for the shuttle run and the circuit pursuite(within a time frame), you'll be fine, best way is to get your lungs, legs and upper body in shape.
23 is a good age, some of my buddies who have just recently joined the force(1-4 years ago) were all between the ages of 26-30.
It doesnt matter how tall or short or heavy you are, as long as you get through the suttle run(my least favorite) and the circuit pursuite, within a certain time frame, you'll be fine. The best way to prepare for the run is to exercise your lungs, by starting a slow walk, to a gradual jog and sprint on a outdoor track. try it out for a couple of days a week, you also need to have the legs to carry you too so if you think your legs are too weak better do some leg press/squads( high repetition low weights)to get'em in shape...same thing for your upper body as the restraint circuit run isn't as easy as it looks, and remember you only have about 10-15 minutes rest between the two.
i think 23 is a good age, I myself am 27 and i'm giving it another try in November, all my buddies who've joined th force in the recent years were all between the ages of 26-32.
They just dont wanna see no freshly graduated highschoolers applying(unless they know the cheif of Police)
This is what I used for training. I passed with flying colours.
It's an actual BEEP cd.
