What is the feedback you guys are receiving about being a White Male applying to become a Constable ? The feedback I am getting from Several people, including current Officers, is that if you are not a minority or you don't have breasts (You are White Caucasian) Then the chances of you getting in are cut dramatically. I understand that they need more women and that minorities are needed to deal with certain communities/individuals appropriately but I don't think you should be put on the bottom of the list just because you are a White Male. How do you guys feel about this issue?
Any Feedback is Great Feedback
Thank You

You are somewhat right. I was told that if you were a minority or a female you would pretty much have a better chance to get the call. It doesn't mean that a caucasian male would not get hired. It all depends where you are applying to. A place like Metro compared to say Orillia OPP have different comunities with different diversity.
Again, if you want to become a Police Officer the journey is still worth it.

I would not let that get you down. I have talked to many police services who said that they don't care what your make up is. The bottom line is they wnat the person best fit for the job regardless of race.

White males in my opinion still make up the majority of police services. Get over it. B/c if you look at any police graduating classes you will see that there's like maybe 2% women and like 4% minority if that. So what if these people get a call first - they are not ompeting against white males but there own genders or other minorities.
You must make yourself competitive in terms of your resumee. So maybe you need to stop complaining & do something about it or check the facts first before you make a statement about someone else getting in ahead of you simply b/c they had breasts or were a minority. They probably were just more qualified than you.
This is in reply to the guy complaining about breasts and minorities getting in.

So when the OPP starts a program called OPP Bound, and for the year 2004 it selected Aboriginal persons, or in the year 2003 they selected woman for the program.
What does that mean? To me that means they are looking to hire minorities and/or females. I'm a male caucasian and don't mind when they do such programs, but when you come out and say that it doesn't happen is just plain wrong.
Just my opinion
OPP Bound regardless if it is aimed at minorities or women, doesn't mean anything. I am a minority and I applied to the OPP bound - but I didn't get in as after speaking to a recruiter - I was too qualified. OPP Bound - looks at people with NO EXPERIENCE at all to do with policing - someone who doesn't have a degree or Police Foundations Diploma, or has done ride alongs , or has ever worked as a Security guard, etc. That is what an OPP recruiting officer specifically told me.
Also yes - they are looking for women and minorities, BUT that's b/c police services are dominated by white males, and it's always going to be this way.
How many police services, or graduating classes do you see with 3/4 or more minorities or females. NONE EVER! So I wouldn't worry about the minorities taking over all the jobs!
Plus if YOU are a qualified individual you will get on, not due to your gender or race. If you are a woman or minority - you may be interviewed more quickly but if you don't meet the standards, than it doesn't mean anything.
Someone with such a biased opinion - shouldn't even consider becoming a police officer. Check the facts before stating such an opinion!
No need to get all worked up. Fjacky was just pointing out that there are many females and minorities getting these jobs. (along with male caucasian)
And I did go see the graduating class of 2004 in Toronto and out of 125 recruits, only 37 were male caucasian.
We are not trying to argue, but when recruiters tell you that if you are a minority, or a female your chances of getting a call for an interview are a lot higher than if you were a male caucasian.
Not an opinion, just a fact

Click this link to see a report on the demographics for OPP recruiting from 1998-2003. http://crpr.icaap.org/issues/issue1/rmorris.html You will see that the majority are still male and white. Certainly, if you are female and a minority you have a better chance and your equal male counterpart, but there are also many other factors that go into hiring and you have to remember that there are still not alot of females (and even less minorities) who are applying, hence, the still high numbers of white males.

Hello from OPC to those of you that I have talked with!
I would say that a good 80% of the recruits at OPC are white males.
I am in a class of 41 people. There are 5 females in it, and I can only think of 4 \"visible minority\" recruits.
As far as I know, everything is based off personal merit.....and it sorta upsets me when people say things like \"I didn't get hired cuz I'm a guy\"....it's just not the way it is guys.

Hi Marko,
There is internet access in the library
Generally we are on our own time after 1630, however they sometimes have workshops, classes and activities after that time.
Breakfast is 630-800
Lunch 11:30-1300
Dinner 16:30-18:00
We can leave and go to the city after hours.
