I was recently in the selection process for the December intake and everything was smooth. I passed all the interviews and even the background check but received a letter that indicated I got rejected after my psychological test. I was told the psycological test fails half the people but my point is now I have to wait a year if I want to try again. I mean is there a point to re-apply cause I am still going to be me in a year time. Maybe one of you can fill me in with your knowledge.

Were you 100% totally honest with the psych test?
I know of a person that failed the psych 3-times and is at the College Right now!
Thanks..............

BDV, did they tell your friend why he failed 3 times?
Nope.....................

Actually - The Test + Interview actually only fails less then 10% of the people that write the test not the 50% that you suggested. What I was told when going into the test was 1. Ensure that you are in a good mood (Mood will affect answers). 2. Don't Lie or Read Too Much into the Answers - Answer Honestly.
Just what I was told..................
G-Man whom did you write the Test With?
Thanks...............

I did it with Toronto. About the failing ratio I am not too sure how accurate it is but I was told by my background investigator. And bdv you said your friend tried 3 times and with what force? Can you tell me more so I know what to expect in the future?

So what are you two's status right now?
1. I was told that he failed the psych testing 3-times. He eventually got hired with Durham.
2. I am currently going through the process with Toronto and at the BGI Stage.
3. I am confident with my numbers for the Psych testing. The percentage that you are referring too - is more with the ECI. I was told by a recruiter that if you walk in cold to the ECI your chances of passing is 10%. If you take a mentoring course it goes to 50%. If you fail and it is your 2nd time your chances are 80-90% pass rate. The Psych Testing fail rate (Including Interview) is less than 10% and I have even been told that some BGI Officers will over-rule the Psych results if a great person fails the Interview section.
3b. I don't want you to feel bad - but the percentage is very small that fails that section of the testing. I was told not to read into the answers; answer honestly; and write the test when you are in a good mood (your mood will affect your answers).
4. G-Man how old are you?
regarding bdv's last post;
\"If you take a mentoring course it goes to 50%. If you fail and it is your 2nd time your chances are 80-90% pass rate. \"
sorry if you have already stated in previous posting, but what resource are your figures coming from?
Is the mentoring program available to anyone with a OACP certificate?
do you know how many sessions a mentoring program is comprised of?

These numbers were told to myself and everyone that visited the Toronto Mentoring Session last Wednesday. Directly from the Recruiters Mouth. The larger forces normally have a mentoring session once per week; they cover the competencies; what they are looking for with the LFI; Give you a made up example for one of the competencies. I have also stated in previous postings of a person in the Durham Region that holds a 1-day course. It was very helpful - for me. Email me at tulip_31@yahoo.com if you are interested. He Focus's on LFI and above.

You have to wait a period of 1 year before you can apply to another Ontario Police Service.
The MMPII-2 and PF16/BF16 are tests which are universal. They score you based on the pattern which you give.
Sleep, mood, even food can affect how you do. It's a snapshot of your \"frame of mind\" at that point in time. They are not overly reliable, however they do give a general idea of the candidate. If you score poorly, or completely all over the place, they will not put the person to a psychologist.
If you score in a certain area, they may not see a need to see a psychologist, or they may send you to one anyway.
Just go with your first instinct - don't read in to the questions. If you read it and say \"yep\" in your head - put yep on the test. They will ask you the same question many different ways.
I have my MMPI-2 tomorrow!

Good luck BDV, I'm sure you'll do fine!
If I was not screwed up before I wrote the test - I am now! All kidding aside - that is one weird test.
Moving on.................

Hey BDV, out of curiosity, would you enjoy fixing a door latch?
And would you rather plant flowers than build a dog house?
LOL

I pick fix a door latch.. why would you plant flowers THEN build a dog house? Can I Fix the door latch THEN build a dog house? or fixing the door latch on the dog house? What if the door is a sliding door? is the door latch for the dog?
That's the questions... to Be or NOT to be..

yeah I was told is less then 3% of people fail the test. The number is very low and the service has the right to over turn it that's why they do it AFTER BGI and not before.
Why would the service waste all their time on BGI and then have you do a test that will fail 50% of people??? they might as well have you do the test first then BGI.
key is not to read into the questions... I really do enjoy fixing door latches over planting flowers... I do not enjoy spending my afternoon in the sun and in dirt.
However,,, if I read into the questions.. if I pick fixing door latches I might show that I pick the easy way out... as planting flowers include building a dog house. It can also mean I do not like outdoor if I pick fixing door latches.
so who knows... just answer the questions as what it is and hope you are sane on paper.

Too bad you can't study for these types of things. Or at least prepare.....

Nono, not THEN do something...as in afterwards.
I would rather build a doghouse THAN (alternative) plant flowers....
You can't study for a psych test, and it's a damned good thing you can't....if you could, there would be a lot of psycho's on the road.
I got my psychological Interview booked for Friday and have my home visit on Thursday. All this week! I can FINALLY see an end to the tunnel.
Wish me luck.........

The only thing that you can do is ensure that you get a good nights sleep before and ensure that you write the test when you are in a good mood. I listened to my favorite David Hasselhoff CD on the way to the test in the car! Nothing like driving down the DVP singing David H. songs - to keep you in a good mood.
Thanks................

Do all Police Services have 'Home Visits'?
Do all Police Services have 'Home Visits'?
Home Visits are standard with all Police Services - but ultimately up-to the BGI officer to complete. The purpose of the home visit is in my opinion the following: 1. Ensure you live where you say you live. 2. Meet yourself -in most cases your BGI officer has only met you on paper. 3. Talk to your neighbours (always be nice to neighbours). 4. See how you live - clean or messy house.
I got a call last night to inform me that my BGI officer would be visiting Thursday. I was also asked to inform my neighbours he would like to talk with them.
Wish me luck.................

Good Luck.
Is this stage after hte LFI and the ECI?
Dafez

Home visits are strictly up to the service. Larger services typically do home visits, whereas smaller services don't.
There are lots of us here at OPC who didn't have home visits.

Thanks Dafez. When do they usually do the home visits. After the LFI and ECI?
Is this stage after hte LFI and the ECI?
The Process that most forces follow is LFI - ECI - BGI - PYSCH - HIRE. The Home Visit is normally the last stage of the BGI.

Home visits? What do they do' come over and inspect the place and sit down for tea? I didn't realize that some did home visits, not that it matters to me but kind of weird. Anyone who has hade home visit from a force please tell us more. Thanks
I had my home visit last night - the BGI Officer talked to my neighbours (asked them some basic character questions) then met with me and my family for about 30-45 minutes. It is a pretty informal meeting - just a way for him to put a face to the file; see how you live; meet the wife and kids (if applicable).
Thanks............
