Thought I'd start a new thread for those who are waiting on the November 2010 intake.

Judging by the timeline for the last two intakes, I'm guessing the next additional testing day (for Nov intake) will be on either 10 or 17 September. Does that sound right?

Have you already been accepted into the additional testing for November intake? didnt even think they had gone to the selection committee for the August intake yet.

No, I was meaning if you get the call this would be the approx. dates. :D

As far as I am aware, now that September is pretty much done the next intake they will be recruiting for starts on 1 November 2010.

Yeah, I spoke with recruiting today, there is a selection committee meeting this week, where they are looking at applicants for the remaining intakes for the year, which basically is the November brisbane intake.

Hey Everyone :)

This is my first post on this forum...

I super fast tracked my application back in March and completed the testing and interview at the end of April. I spoke to recruitment yesterday and they told me that my application was rolling along really well and that the selection committee sits this week for consideration in November.. Been a pretty long journey so far, so fingers crossed.. :)

Apparently they send a letter out in 2 - 3 weeks after the selection panel sits with your results and an acknowledgement that it has been to the selection panel..

Mick :)

Guys the only other intake for the year is November in Brisbane. If u haven't received an invite to tomorrow's testing, November is ur only shot.

Hi All,

Can anyone tell me at what stage they print your name in the Police Gazette? Is it after you pass all the tests?

Thanks

Hopefully, but I still haven’t made it to the selection committee yet, and have heard my name was in the gazette. I’m just trying to establish some kind of time line with the process!

Im hoping to get on this one. My file hasnt been through the commitee yet as I have had to type up a "show cause" for a couple of traffic infringements 4 years ago lol.

Zero
07-31-2010, 10:05 AM
Name in the Gazette means nothing. I never ended up in the gazette at all and made it into academy. All it does is give sworn ins the chance to shoot you down.

And speedy steve i would take that "show cause" letter well serious. I had to do the same thing (4 fines in 8yrs), and ended up writing a 750+ word essay explaining everything.

They are taking Integrity so serious these days that anything that brings yours remotely into question will leave you standing on the sideline.

Haha sorry mate, my response sounded a bit rough. Long week of assessment.

If you persist with patience im sure you'll all do fine. You'll find some who get accepted and you think "how the hell did you get here?" so if you have a solid head on your shoulders you'll do good.

Let us know if you make it in at any point and i'll make the effort to give you all my notes. :)

Goodluck guys and gals.

SpeedySteveJ

Hi Zero. Yea I did take that letter of "show cause" pretty seriously. I sent the manager of recruiting a 850+ word letter about my infringements in detail, the lessons I have learnt, and how remorseful I was. Hopefully it is enough to get me in

Zero
08-02-2010, 10:19 AM
Good to hear steve, i got through with the highest speed ticket you can get without losing your licence (40kph over). So, if you articulated your personal growth from your fines well enough, you'll be a shoe in in that regards.

rbeaumont
08-02-2010, 11:06 PM
No worries, very understandable.

We are all in the same boat here, so we all know how frustrating it is waiting for any kind of response or information!

You'll be right Steve, hang in there!

Beep Test

Illinois Agility Test

Hang Test - 3 Seconds overhand Grip

Strength Test - Jumping over brick wall as many times as you can in 30 seconds

Driver Test - Slow speed reverse parking etc

Small role play as a police officer dealing with public

Colour blindness test, integrity questions and thats it.

Did you end up having to do the swim as well?

Dean1234
08-04-2010, 07:43 AM
When we did our testing day last month we didn't have to do the swim because it was too cold and I think the heating system was broken.

But I think you are normally required to undertake it.

There has been new emphasis place of physical ability since apparently most people fail due to injury from being unfit or not being able to complete the triple in PSE.

Be fit guys, they expect it.

matt2010
08-06-2010, 03:39 AM
Whats the triple PSE Zero?

Zero
08-07-2010, 01:02 AM
Your final ftness assessment for Physical Skills Education:

Beep Test - Only gotta get level 8.6
20min wait
Obsticle Course- Time is relevant to your age
20min wait
Dummy Drag- Drag a 75kg dummy 30m x 2.

Sounds easy enough but apparently alot of people were failing it.

08-07-2010, 05:19 AM
Hey Zero, is there still the 2.4km run as well.

Zero
08-07-2010, 07:06 AM
The 2.4km has been out for ages mate. They do the "Beep Test" now, under 30 is a 9.4 for A lvl fitness... aim for that.

Newbs1
08-07-2010, 08:32 AM
I figured the 2.4km run had gone, but was unsure as the appointment letter states that you should be familiar and be prepared to undertake the Physical Skills Education Program which still outlines the 2.4km run and the beep test. I guess they need to update their website and info. Thanks for clearing it up though Zero.

Zero
08-07-2010, 02:18 PM
fitness requirements arnt great once you are on, they make you do more to get in than you'll do once you are in.
Youre first PSE day will be remembered though, they seriously ran us into the ground so bad. I thought i was half fit until that day, just about broke me on day 1 of PSE.

Nick
08-07-2010, 10:43 PM
Sounds pretty full on Zero. I guess they have to see what they are dealing with hey.

So what's a typical PSE session involve at first? What did they have you guys do that almost broke you?

Newbs1
08-07-2010, 11:45 PM
My beep test expires two weeks prior to intake, do you reckon I need to do another prior to going in, or could I wait for the first PSE.

Newbs1
08-08-2010, 12:25 AM
Hey Zero, question for you! How many push-ups are they expecting us to do?

Zero
08-08-2010, 12:47 AM
Your FIRST PSE session is intense... You pretty mcuh go through everything you do in the pre entry test day they run now, beep test, hang test, chin ups, sit ups etc.

For us they put squad against squad (2 squads), each squad split into two.
One half sprint 200m+, the other half do pushups continuously until they return. Then you swap. You do that till youve gone through pushups, situps, star jumps then that round is done.

Then you do that 2 more times.

Then you line up fitest to unfitest and you do the 200m loop with the fitest running first, when he is done he comes back, grabs the hand od the 2nd fitest person then they both do the run, they come back grab the 3rd fitest and so on till the whole squad is running tother....

The squad that loses each phase gets punishes with more situps, pushups etc.

As for the pushups question, for warm up every session you do 3 sets of 10 pushups and situps. An you hve to do 10 wide grip pull ups.

K-Unit
08-09-2010, 02:04 AM
So the fittest bloke could end up running 2km +? i love it sounds like hell, but who doesn't love pain and competiting for pride against another squad...i am going in the Sept intake, how far in do they do this test...also how often do you do PSe, like once a week twice a week...final questions, how far in beforte you get a uniform and what do you wear up to and including then?

After what they make you do first, it is far from enjoyable, and im a guy who likes a bit f competition. But i guess you'll find out :P

Your day of reckoning is in week 2. You generally do PSE twice a week wih each session being 4hrs+. We had uniforms, I shit you not, by the end of the first week (although you dont get to wear them unil your entire squad is fitted out). Up until then you wear business attire; dress slacks, long sleeved shirts, jackets etc.

If you mean the assessment day strength test, it is the 1.5m wall on the obstacle course that you have to climb as many times as you can in 30 seconds.

If you mean the assessment day strength test, it is the 1.5m wall on the obstacle course that you have to climb as many times as you can in 30 seconds.

Then they have added this since the last intake. We never did any strength test like this. But be aware that obstacle course has done some damage on folks. A guy has been back squadded already for busting his knee on it.

Hi All, recruiting mentioned during the last assessment day that they may not run them anymore, not surprised to hear that there is none for Nov intake. Has anybody heard when offers for November are going to happen, based on last couple of intakes it must around 20th September as a guess.

speedysteve, when did you complete your testing?

SpeedySteveJ
09-06-2010, 10:35 AM
Hey Matt83. I completed my testing at the end of March.

Got the letter I mentioned above. Due to an integrity issue I will not be offered employment as a recruit. The integrity team cannot see past me trying Marijuana twice when I was 19. I was extremely honest and remorseful in my letter of show cause. I should have lied about it as many other applicants do. Oh well, my mistake for thinking that honesty was a valued character trait in the Police Service. I will appeal it but I am told my chances are not good.

Steeleha
09-06-2010, 11:07 PM
Hi Speedystevej.

Thats an unfortunate situation that your in, Why did you tell them about the smoking of dope?, Where on the paperwork does it say that you had to disclose that type of information?. Was your smoking marijuana police related that resulted in a caution?.

Good luck in the future.

rbeaumont
09-07-2010, 12:10 AM
Speedystevej,

Sorry to hear that. How old are you now if i may ask?

The question realtaing to drug use is in the personality test.

SpeedySteveJ
09-07-2010, 08:06 AM
I disclosed in the personality test that I had tried Marijuana. In further talks with the QPS Psychiatrist I admitted to trying it twice when I was around 19yrs old. I was never cautioned and have never had any encounters with the Police. I just believed that honesty was important, I never thought something so small would jeopardise my application. I am currently 24.

I have no idea justjack, but you'd have to be pretty hopeful that it's finally your turn now that you are on a b rating. :D I know how you feel about the wait. It's been over a year since I applied now and I only just received my rating about 6 weeks ago!! I am seriously considering another career path at this stage as I cannot wait much longer due to family commitments. Thanks Lex. Recruiting called me on Wednesday to ask for my employers email address for a reference check, but they still haven't sent anything yet. But I guess you're right, they are probably still going to be calling people on Monday. Fingers crossed...

Es - I got the call about reference check Wednesday too. They sent it straight away. My boss sent it back Thursday and I got an offer email late Friday afternoon. It's probably worth checking that they sent it to the right place. Good luck.
