Hello All,
Here is my updates for everything.
I've admitted to my D and D 10 years ago, tried pot 8 years ago and even calling the Police on my bro for over drinking on this past New Years Eve.
Durham LFI: Passed the LFI but they decided not to move me on.
York LFI: Did better, still waiting to hear.
TPS Mentoring: Went to that last night and it was very informative. The lady gave us a lot of info and by doing so it reminded me of an incident 11 years ago when I had a collections agency after me. It was something that came out of no where but I paid the debt right away. It was for a 'non-returned' movie believe it or not. Something like a $500 late fee. I didn't even know the movie was still checked out.
When do I tell York this? I even forgot to put it in my TPS info kit.
Will York look into this before my ECI?
Will TPS look into this before my 1st interview?
Thanks all
(Sorry for all of the info)

Well, it looks like I jumped the gun. I did a credit report on Equifax and it turns out the Collections Agency never did get to me. I'm guessing that I paid off the debt in time. I even called them to be double sure.
Boy oh Boy all of this remembering is making me paranoid.....
:)
Thanks All again

Breath Fjacky ... breath
You said you found the mentoring program informative ... that's good news .... tell me.... did you wear a suit? lol

There was approx 30-40 people there and there was only 2 people in full suits (me and another)
Some were dressed nice, some were in jeans. To be honest, there was nobody really there to see who was in a suit. But if someone does notice I guess it would help.
I just figure it's not a big deal to throw on a suit, so why not.

I'm with you on that one ....
I have never gone to one - who conducts that course ... is it a recruitment officer, or retired officer?
And, ... is it to help you with the ECI?
fjacky

I'm guessing they were recruitment officers.
And ya, they gave us info on the LFI AND ECI as they are in the same single Interview now. It is approx 2.5 hours long. Of course if they don't like the LFI stage, they can stop it right there.
Instead of all 5 compentencies, they only ask you 2.
Which ones you ask?????????
You never know.

Man - that sounds intense. :?
Did you do the ECI with Durham? (or do I have the wrong location)?
Do you have a date set yet? So I guess the best bet is to make sure that you have 2 examples for each competency just to be ready ... there is nothing like trying to think of an example on the spot - it is brutal!!!

UPDATE:
I just got a call from my York recruiter this morning. He said he heard that I called and mentioned that I left a few things out during my LFI.
He told me to fax him the updates. So I guess I'll do a sit down and brainstorm, and make sure I have everything in order. Then fax it in. I hope me adding 5-6 new things won't hurt my chances.
And you know what, I'll still probably forget something

So you admit to everything? I dont know if thats required in Ottawa. Jenn will have to help me on that.
But I guess in 98 or 99 had a speeding ticket
then an accident in 2000.
But do I need to mention if there was a credit company calling me before for a payment?
Not saying my credit is bad...i had to work hard to bring it back to par..now I have a master card, and a loan which I wanted to bring it back good, which it did...and im extremely happy for that to be honest.

Yea fjacky that looks bad, during the Interview try to own up to everything because of what you wrote it seems that you are trying to pass the buck. Even though you don't think it is your fault. The truck was a crummy work truck unsafe but you took it anyways, what you should have done is check it over, then if it is unsafe refuse to use it. Then your accident, should you put it in the ditch then go to your house get twisted and then go get it out. It just looks bad. A recruiting sarge from the o.dots said that they aren't trying to find perfect people because they is noone, but to get hired with say 1 speeding ticket is not bad but 5 or six speeding tikets doesn't look to good. It shows that you have no respect for the law that you are trying to get a job to enforce. I of course have a up hill battle just like you. I do have one charge in which I got a pardon for and finished school as well. I am not trying to be fard on you just trying to give you advice that I have learned though this crazy process
Good luck

Thanks for your honesty. As I've said before I'm just hoping that since it was over 10 years ago it will help..

One more thing stop speeding and keep trying I've been working on this thing for two years now and I haven't even applied yet. But I am going to keep going until I get hired it is one of the best things I have ever done and if by some chance I don't get hired I will come away a better person I went from high school drop who who drank and smoked cigerettes and never ran a day in my life also overweight , to some one who went back to high school, got a pardon, stop drinking and smoking I am almost ready to run in my first half marathon. I am also thinking of doing more schooling help people cope with drug and alcohol abuse. What I am saying is keep going and working towards what interests you. Schooling can be done over the web and indepentent study time stands still foe no man.

Very true. I have definetly stopped speeding. And I know that I have made changes for the better, the thing to do is, make the recruiter believe in me as much as I do.
Heck my father-in law is a newly retired Police Officer and he took me into his family with open arms knowing of my pasts mistakes.
At first I thought one of my downfalls was my age (32) but now it looks like it's my best trait, lol

Fjacky: You will face an uphill battle, but I'm sure that provided you are honest and open about your past it will only help.
I wouldn't be too concerned about the POA charges. I had a speeding ticket that I disclosed, and there were no ramifications. I would more concerned about the accident. I would clear up the confusion surrounding this ... for sure.
Bertha87: As for OPS - at the time you go in for the LFI they provide you with forms to complete, which ask about your past and criminal activites. The same thing applies ... disclose everything, be honest, and be able to explain your actions.
We are all human, and we make mistakes - what they are looking for is that we can take responsiblity for our mistakes, and learn from them. I really don't think they are looking for Saints!!!!
Fjacky, in addition to aforementioned, try to circumspect and see things from your Interviewer's point of view. Owning up to your mistakes is certainly a step in the right direction, so is being contrite and acknowledge your mistakes. However, more than anything else, be able to explain and demonstrate how you've changed. It's not just that things have changed from a temporal perspective (i.e. it's been a long time since), but that things have changed from a psychological perspective.
Be able to talk about and use examples of how you've matured and approach these situations differently now. It would also be a huge boone to able cite occassions where you have affected change in others as well.
*Remember some of the biggest anti-smoking advocates are they themselves former smokers (myself included).
Let me qualify that. \"Smoker\" as in cigarettes - Players Light to be exact.
tell me is failure to admit that you received parking tickets bad...
To the best of my recollection they don't ask about parking tickets.
opp asks about parking tickets

I am going to send a letter to the York recruiter letting him know that I forgot a few things. (6 in total) Is it proper to tell them that I got this info from a Driving Records check? Or should I just say I rememebered them?

Well I faxed my 2 page letter in. I called today to see if my recruiter got it OK and he said that he added it to my file. I guess I'll call back in a month or so to see if my file is still active.
Thanks all again for your help

Well I called back York and TPS to get an update on my files and I received an answering machine for both. I left a message. Hopefully they get back to me soon.
Will update.
Hi Fjacky
why did you have to call the police on your brother? Was he drinking too much? That must have been a tough call![/quote]
fjacky
05-19-2006, 04:24 PM
Ya, it was a very tough call. But I didn't like the way things were heading and I wanted him to know I was serious. Since then he has stopped drinking and we are back on track again.
It just sucks that I have to explain that in my application. But again, I'd do the same thing again.
