Can someone explain how this minus (-) comes here.

(y + 24) / 4 = 4

solution for this is (-8)

For my calculation it's supposed to be (8), maybe I might be wrong.
Can Someone help me.
Thanks

y+24 = 4*4
y+24 = 16
y=16-24
y= -8

If the above would have been y=24-16 then the answer would be "8".

I hope this helps.

Hi,

everything cross the = change the sign (take the opposite sign)

(y+24)/4=4

1. the 4 will go to the other side taking the opposite sign (multiplied in this case)
y+24= 4*4 , y+24=16

2. the 24 will go to the other sid taking the opposite sign ( negative in this case)
y=16-24
since the bigger number has the negative sign (-24) substracted from +16
then the y= (-8)

All the best wishes
