RCMP and the ARMY ... conflict?

    Hey folks!!

Good luck to all trying to join a force!

    Heres my question...

What does anyone know about joining the RCMP AND the ARMY RESERVE?

Im want to do both. You can do both for any other police force, some forces are super supporters of this!

I e-mailed both the army (CF) say they dont have a problem with someone being in both jobs, but the RCMP say they have an issue. The RCMP issue is that they say their are pension problems. By the time you graduate from Depot in Sask. you need to quit the reserves.

Apparently this is changing, but no word yet.

Personally I dont believe this, as the pension in the reserves is a new thing and the no RCMP while in the reserves is an age old problem. Reciently talked to a few Canadian Forces Recruiters and they still say they have no problem.

    Any ideas??

A specific question I want answered is where is this written down?

    Thanks!!!!

    Army Reserve And RCMp

    Hello there,

I want to do both as well and do not want to wait for the RCMP recuiting process to end before trying the Reserve. Also, if I don't make it into the RCMP I may not find out for several months and in the mean time I can be investigating other career paths.

Anyhow, I will email and talk with some RCMP recruiters and see if I can find anything on this.

    Boltcutter.

    Hey Hireme,

I think this might help you out... I know it does not address pension implications, but it still states that you can serve in both organisations.

In a perfect world, you should be able to put your reserve military time, and transfer it towards RCMP time for pension, but I have a feeling that it is going to cause A LOT of pension problems, especially reservists that become RCMP officers that have not bought there pension time back from the reserves, and of course having been in the reserves for a significant time...

However, maybe they have something set up to transfer time over, who knows...

    Cheers

So here it is... a memo

Just incase anyone was interested, the policy just changed a few months ago.

    dated Jan 17, 2007

    it states:

General RM Applicants - Canadian Forces Reserves Members are now permitted to continue with their duties. Recruiting units and Depot staffing are no longer required to ask for a letter of resignation.

Thanks to those who tried to help out! :-)

That is good to know. So, if I do make it to depot I would just have to let my reserve unit know I will be gone for several weeks. One problem with this though is that since one can be sent anywhere in Canada there may be no reserve unit within a reasonable distance.
