QPS - Is there much point in me applying?

    Hi all

I just realised that they prefer you to have 3 years since you had a driving offence on your licence. This has really annoyed me as I am wanting to super fast track and it has been 2 years and 1 month since my previous speeding fine of 'more than 10km's but less than 15km'.

Is it worth me applying jan/feb next year or should I wait until it has been 3 years since my last ticket? I have been focusing on applying for so long and to think I will be rejected because of a damn ticket upsets me so much.

I am hoping that seeing the application takes so long, and I am applying January/February next year that it will be close to the three year mark before they run a licence history check for me.

I really regret getting this ticket!!! Please give me some hope :-)

If you have less than 5 (hoping you have only 1 or 2), then i would apply and add a letter explaining how you got your ticket and what you learned from the experience, how you've grown etc etc. Helps if you drive an awful lot and your traffic history is still minor.

I had a couple of high end tickets and wrote a 700+ word essay explaining everything. Here i am, halfway through academy.

    Good luck.

I have written detailed responses on every little blip on my traffic history and then found this thread, which has given me some comfort in knowing that others have made it through by doing the same thing.

Although it is no guarantee that I will be successful, it does show I am on the right track. i think the police need to show that they believe people can reform and if you can prove you have, it is a sign of being able to indentify your faults, accept where you went wrong and your strength to better yourself.

    Fingers crossed!

    Ben.
I think stealing is worse than traffic offences and I know someone that got in and admitted to stealing when they were younger.
I think it's best if you apply, you have nothing to lose and all the more to gain! The person I know was like "Nah won't be able to get in got caught stealing" but gave it a go and is now with the QPS for 4 years now.
Transparency and honesty to show your integrity is what the QPS wan'ts. A lot of recruits have fines etc. You will most likely receive a "C" rating for integrity which would bring your overall merit rating down... but if you are scoring A's else where it won't matter that much. Remember C+'s are getting into the recruits. 13 years ago is a long time mate they won't worry about it too much.
    Goodluck!

    Hi Mate,

My mate, Gumpoo was caught speeding after he had completed the recruiting application process. He was over by 15 or 20km/h. He then got an offer to start at the academy in November. He started in the November intake!

I say put your application in.

    Good Luck.....

A mate of mine is a cop at the gold coast and he got in a year after he lost his license. He told me to put my application in as he doesn't think they will to worried about me being on a "work license" due to demerit points. From what I gather unless you have a horrible traffic record or have been drink driving etc. It should be ok. At least that's what I am hoping on, damn trade life means lots of driving from job to job rush rush rush!! I also went to a recruitment seminar two weeks ago and one of the recruitment officers said as long as my order expired before I start at the academy it should be ok! Fingers crossed!! But you have more chance than me haha!

    Lodge your application!!!

A while back a mate of mine phoned QPS and spoke with an integrity officer about a drink driving charge he received 5 years ago. He was told for a mid-range reading (.122) there is a 5 year exclusion period before you can apply and if you re-offend after that you are ineligible to apply permanently. She also told him for each additional fine after a loss of license there would be a longer exclusion period.

The integrity officer said that QPS believed that everyone deserved a second chance and that minor traffic offences were not a major issue so long as you were not a repeat offender. And as MrTedTed said, at worst your integrity rating will take a hit but if you do well enough in the other areas, you should be fine.

    Good Luck

    Hey Ben,
you have certainly been unlucky with the dui's. Very unfortunate given the circumstances surrounding them. I have to be honest and say that given it was a moped I would have just given you a warning. But like most of us we do stupid and dumb things when we are young and they bite us in the bum when we grow older and wise up.

I truely can't see why you shouldn't be accepted. They were a long time ago and it wasn't like you were driving a car absolutely off your face. I have no time for drink drivers on the roads, those that are way over 0.05. I think each case has to be judged on its own merits and it truely seems you have learned your lesson and have made a good go with life. My advise to you would be put your application in. Even get a few character references to support your application.

Like others have said on here, if you remain honest and up front with recruitment it will go a long way. If you want it that bad then I say go for it and keep trying. Good luck mate.
