    Background

I am thinking about applying to a couple police forces. However, I have been told by many people that it is imperative that you are at least three years clear of any detected or undetected criminal activity. My background is essentially clean, other than the fact that I have drank and drove numerous times in the past. I stopped doing that about a year and a half ago. Would that constitute criminal activity? Is it even worth applying or will I just get deferred?

Thx. I would appreciate any answers and input ot help me out.

From what you just told me, I wouldn't even bother. Drinking and driving is a huge thing with services, and they would probably black list you if they found out.

I had a D and D over 10 years ago and have received a Pardon since. It is true, they do look down at this. Even though it's been over 10 years, they still look down at it. I've really had to prove that I have changed. It's a tough road for me, but I'm gonna keep at it.

You can't say that it is a wate of time for everone though. The reason why I ended up going through with this is because an old friend of mine had a D and D about 10 years ago and he was hired with Peel. Basically the same exact situation as me.

And WJR180, were you ever pulled over or charged?

From what you have said it's not a one time mistake. It's a concious decision that you have made. Police services do not tolerate behaviour like that, and rightfully so. A year and a half of not driving while drunk doesn't mean squat, with the history that you have presented. It will show up in your background check.

Hey WJR180, were you charged numerous times? Or are you just admitting to doing it numerous times?

there is a distinct difference between being pulled over and charged. You post your problems on this site for everyone to comment on. Take the comments when you get them. In your words your friend had \"a\" meaning 1 d&d charge. You state you have been charged many times. Difference

he admitted to doing it undetected. if he was charged numerous times of course he would not be applying as he would have a criminal record. it takes 3 yrs waiting to apply for pardon then another year or so to get it. i bet there are not many people in this country that have not drove impaired at least once in your life. a little or a lot does not matter you did it. if you learned from your mistake you have matured and hopefully you will get hired but it will be hard. if you continue to do it, see ya.
