Hi Alex,
Well, I don't think that there's one particular way to approach these problems.
Just doing them over and over again will help you keep your mind open to new patterns that you may not have been able to notice the first time around.
I also find them to be pretty challenging some times.
All the best,
Bryan

alex1984- there are 3 sections of the pati that assess your inductive/deductive reasoning (syllogisms) matching (observation) problem solving and math, mapping., etc. you can be stronger in one area than another but it's best to have a good grasp of each to be successful and navigate quickly during actual test time. Practice any and all and not just from book, there are a number of exercises on the web to stretch your understanding. Matching, as the examples demonstrates consist of 4 pics, one of which doesn't fit with the rest. That might be because it is grouped by a 'theme' (non-living item in 3 living) and others not so obvious, the dreaded lines in a diagonal across boxes with other identification meant to throw you off.
Syllogisms, well, they are a beast unto themselves. Someone on the forum webpage recently posted a link to a youtube video for help, but there is definitely a fairly simply way of learning a pattern, or rule for lack of a better word. Once you nail that and figure it out, you're as good as gold. Very best of luck. If it helps, I failed first time too then studied me arse off on areas of particular concern. I think the trick is to wrap your head around each of the six so you're not sweatin' bullets come test time. GL

Hi tan,
Ive only dabbled with the syllogisms so far, saving that section for last so I don't explode my brain before getting a firm handle of all other sections.
The "rule" you speak of for the syllogisms. I've seen it before, is that the secret? Learn all of the rules then apply to each? Having not fully looked into it yet, but seemed like there were like 15 or so to memorize, is that what you did?? Seemed very confusing, didn't want to get discouraged so focusing on other sections before I battle that beast.
Thanks for any help.

sorry cw I haven't been on for awhile, somewhere on this forum I've written a couple fairly thorough explanations regarding syllogisms, and understanding them, if you scroll around the pati website you might come across them, I passed a year ago, so it's a little stale, it was a toronto police officer who showed me how to understand them, I don't think there's 15 persay, but I would google understanding syllogisms and there's a ton of practice or example websites, and others that explain how to understand them, take the time to read it and understand it, once you do it makes perfect sense. when I wrote the first time I doubt I got one right and if I did it was a fluke, but when I wrote the 2nd time, I don't know that I got them all but I flew threw them, you just follow the 'rule'. if I can help any more feel free to let me know.
