New career! Good for you! One of the best places to begin; attend a information session with a service you'd like to apply with. Once there you'll get lots of feedback. In the meantime ask away on these boards. _________________ Passed PATI/PREP April 28th

A total career change? Good for you. I've been in your shoes and I can say its a hell of a lot of work but what a feeling when you acheive your goal and dream. Good luck! Ask away on the questions! _________________ Recieved COR on June 26, 2008

Firstly, I am not a police officer and I wrote the tests for the OPP under the program Eastern Police Experience for the PATI and the WCT, however I did not pass. Unfortunately, the program is over this year, but I strongly encourage you register for next year’s session – Check the OPP website with this URL: http://www.opp.ca/Recruitment/opp_007333.html for the information on this program. The OPP covers “the cost of testing, normally paid by applicants” so it does not hurt to apply!!!
I personally reviewed these books to understand policing from a different perspective and I firmly believe that they will help you as well. There are many aspects that recruiters, the ride alongs, the police foundation courses, TV/Movies, and whatever else that you know about policing did not go over. These books will give you that edge psychologically and mentally to survive in the realm in policing.
Some great recruiters that you should contact:
RCMP: Constable Jason T. Jordan
Email: jason.t.jordan@rcmp-grc.gc.ca
OPP : Constable Ben Meireles
Email ben.meireles@ontario.ca
Phone : 613-866-0930
OPP: Sergeant Steve Linton
Recruitment Section Career Development Bureau
Emai: steve.linton@ontario.ca
OPP: Constable Michele Brochu
Major Event Liaison Team
Email: michele.brochu@ontario.ca
Below are the books that are I was able get through Carleton University and the Ottawa Public Library – http://www.biblioottawalibrary.ca/index_e.html If you don’t live in Ottawa and the books are not available at your library you can request them through the inter library system available through most universities:

Hi there and welcome! I too am a mom, but only of 1. He feels like 3 at times.... This site has been a very good resource and more then helpful.
Policing has been my dream forever. I however, spent the last 14 years in social work; addictions/mental health. I am finally persuing my dream career and if I can help in anyway please let me know.
Take care and best of luck!

Hi I am a mom of 2 and 35 years old...good luck to you, I failed the prep the first time. My time was 3 minutes, I was really disapointed but I trained hard with the PX90 dvds and came back 3 months later with a time of 2 min and 28 seconds. Now just waiting for the interview, had a pre interview paperwork session with york. God luck to you!!! It's good to see us older gals make it |

Hi there Ladies!
I am a mother of three boys under 8 years of age. I began my journey in Policing back in September 08'. I started off by hiring a personal trainer for 6 months just to get started back in the gym as it had been 6 years since i had worked out hard. I did the Prep last September 08' and got 3 min,8sec's and went back this September and did 2 min and 43 sec's(still too close). |

I have talked to a few different officers and they informed me that older women stand a good chance in a competitive career. Life experience is something i hear repeated over and over again. As a mother and having been around awhile gives us an edge when it comes to life experience, also understanding and relating to the dynamic needs of the community. Of course we must pass all the requirements as well, but it was encouraging feedback from Police Officers. It has taken me 38 years to find something that fits like a glove and i am so excited.
My family and friends think i'm a little crazy but they all support me and i have come to realize that unless you feel called to do this it won't make sense to other people.
Let's keep in touch and encourage one another! |
