I won't comment on Jan's post causeI don't know what to think of that comment either
Mom of one right here! Welcome to the board.
How do your kids feel about what you are trying to do/become?
There is another thread for women in general some of the posters are moms. It could probably use a bump. |

Hey Ruffian!
Thank you for the welcome! i was hoping to connect with some mom's out there!
My kids have mixed feelings my youngest of course who is 4 years old wants to be a Police Officer now..it's admirable, however,my two oldest have reservations, i don't know if it was a mistake, but i have let them watch COPS with me on occasion, their wasn't any violence towards the Officers directly, but they sense and understand the element of danger, which i actually want them to know. I don't want to mislead my children of the dangers but i do however share with them the main purpose of a Police Officer...
Have you ever been to the Info Sessions at police centers for women only?,they had one at HPS last November but i didn't make it,i am thinking of attending it this year as there are some personal concerns I am sure of when it comes to policing..(not deserving any special attention of course..)
So where are you in this lengthy process? |

| Hi I am 35 yr old mom of 2....passed all my testing had 1 interview with durham didnt make it now just waiting on york and tps. I felt awfull after the Durham interview, I think that is the hardest part of this whole process. Started to second guess myself, but I really want to be a good role model for my family and go back and do what I have always dreamed of doing. Good luck to you!! |

| Carm a little off topic but which interview were you unsuccessful at? The LFI or ECI because if you do a search or contact goldenbug he can pass on some information on interview mentoring. It is important to be prepared and mentoring gives you the confidence to do the interview and pass. |

I have not been to one of those sessions, but I did have a mentoring session with recruiters from OPP. They are a very supportive bunch!
I am a PF college student.
As of today I am waiting 2 months to redo prep I NEVER thought that would be the component I'd fail, but eh it happens.
I passed the PATI and WCT (yay!). I was worried about WCT, but apparently I did well.
So while waiting to retest I am focusing on eating more food, strengthening my core, lifting weights more and running less.
For those moms who have carried children in thier wombs: Strengthen that core.
I also recommend attending a Prep help session to see where you are at in terms of fitness.
I agree that there are issues unique to women in general and also to moms.
I am sure men and dads have thier own concerns and issues, as you said, they are welcome to start thier own topic.
Thanks for starting this thread |

Hi ladies!
Congrats on PF Ruffian!! I was thinking of taking it but i just didn't have the time or money, however, i'm hoping life experience is really going to work to my advantage,I've talked to a few Officers including my recruiter and they can't emphasize enough the importance of life experience. I haven't worked in a career for 7 years but i run my own business right now, i have for the last 2 years. I'm giving it up in December to focus just on the Policing..is it just me or does it seem like a full time job going through the process and getting prepared for Policing?

The Prep! yeah, pretty intense eh? I went to the practice run at Hamilton and i beat my time from a year ago(3,8sec's) to 2,43sec's still too close for me though, i heard dragging the dummy is harder at the ATS tests, it actually feels more like 200lbs rather than 150lb. that's funny your cutting down your running and I'm kicking it up a couple notches!! i am up to 4km 3x a week(on the street)i was told by the kiniseologist at the police station not to train on a treadmill....how much do u run right now? my strength is good I've done weights for about 12 years it's the running that was a killer for me.
Thanks for the advice about the core your absolutely right, surprisingly my trainer didn't mention that too much to me but it's true, especially getting over those walls..lol!!
all the best in your training and i know you'll kick butt next time!!! |

Hi all:
Yes I did watch the utube videos and it did give me a good ideas as to what they are looking for. As far as training for the prep continue with the core workout but really strengthen your legs it will help you at the end with the dummy drag. My legs were on fire at the end of it. Wall squats are good and lots of lunges!!! |

Perseverence- I am on a x-country team, we run lots
If you are running on the streets, stay off the sidewalk if you can. It is a hard surface and you will be more likely to get shinsplints from the impact.
My best practise prep is 2:03, but that didnt help me at all yesterday
Life experience counts for a lot, I bet you'll do great in all aspects of this.
I will be checking out youtube- what a good resource. |

thanks for the advice Ruffian about running on soft ground, i wish we had a good outdoor track somewhere around here but we don't, i liked doing the treadmill, but is is easier than running outside..i guess we'll be running outside at OPC..
Ruffian...can't believe your time was 2 min 3sec's that's awesome!! you beat the time of the guys that did the Practice Prep at Hamilton with me in September..what do u think happened when you did the actual Prep test on Monday?
I am going on February 19th in Thornhill to do my first test...any other advice you ladies would like to share, especially about the PATI and WCT?? |
