Hello all
I guess this would be a little venting here.
I applied to a service last year, and well It was looked over and I was given a PBQ date on the spot. Long story short I had to apply to the service again this year and I was put on the waiting list for awhile and decided to contact recruiting. I was told I lacked a little in volunteer work. I found this a little odd because I volunteered a bit more then the last time I applied. Would this be an excuse on the recruiters point of view or is the hiring gotten very stricked lately?

I am yes. Just very strange how you become a good applicant, to nothing at all.

Thanks for the replys guys.
Just really funny how I had a little less before, yet got a date for the PBQ on the spot, and I have a bit more this time and sit and wait. Maybe the demand is so picky now they only take those with 100 or so page application.

Thanks for the opinion, I'm sure your process went perfect all the way right? Sorry we all can't be as perfect as you. |

Gerda's certainly was...
Whining would be it he knew why and didn't want to accept it. He doesn't understand and in confused and frustrated.
I have no idea about that service but am leaning to the supply and demand answer myself. For example a year and a half ago an O div applicants to the RCMP would continue in the process with the minimum pass mark and some less scrutiny along the way. They cut spots in half or more than in half since then and recruiting had whack load of applications so now the pass is the same but to continue in the process you need to get a fair bit higher otherwise you are in a holding pool. This might explain your situation, less need means they can be more picky and take a smaller percentile of applicants. Yes it sucks to know people with lower marks got moved along a year ago but a lot about life sucks, got to roll with it and keep trucking. |

I guess there are a lot of whiners on here then. Ive come across many posts about the same sort of thing. Yet I never saw the need to use childish comments or demean anyone on this forum.
I was simply curious if anyone else has the same situation or whatever. Maybe I'm not rude like that and don't feel the need to call people names. That is what a forum is is it not? To ask questions about anything your curious about.
Thanks,
Matt |

First off, Gerda was sort of right, she just put it bluntly. He started his original post with "I guess this would be a little venting" So he was blowing off steam by complaining, nothing wrong with that really, some people just dont like to hear it.
And seconly, he does know the reason why, recruiting told him its due to his lack of volunteering, why would they lie? If it was, as you say, 'supply and demand' why wouldn't they just mention that?
Sorry Matt but it would seem they are looking for more volunteer work from you, you werent competitive enough compared to the other applicants.
