Fraction - Decimal
There are many situations where you will have to convert fractions to decimals. They are often easier to work with. Changing fractions to decimals is simply a division problem. All you have to do is take the numerator and divide it by the denominator.
Mixed Fractions
Mixed fractions have to first be converted to improper fractions before they can be converted to decimals. This is achieved by multiplying the whole number by the denominator and adding the numerator. As soon as the improper fraction is found, you calculate the decimal in the same way as above.
Multiply 3 by 2, and then add 1. This is the new numerator, and the denominator remains the same.
Decimal to Fraction
When converting decimals to fractions, place value is extremely important. The first decimal point to the right of the decimal point is the tenths, followed by the hundredths, thousandths, etc. All you have to do is properly line up the place value with the proper denominator.
