Scenario 1: Traffic Collision
A red Vauxhall Astra was parked on the right shoulder of the road with light damage to the rear bumper. Police responding to the call got on at the nearest roundabout at Jameson Avenue. There were skid marks in the rightmost lane approximately 10 meters long. It had rained the day before in the early afternoon. A large cube van was parked in the lane with severe damage to the front of the truck. The vehicles were all in the eastbound lanes of the A206. Motorists were slowing down to look at the damage to the vehicles involved. There were billboards advertising watches above accident scene. That stretch of the highway was flat and straight. Police arrived on the scene at about 8:38 am. Traffic was heavy, stop-and-go heading eastbound from where the accident occurred. A blue Golf was parked in front of all the other cars with moderate damage on the rear bumper and light damage on the front. Police received a cell phone call at 8:32 am from a victim involved in the accident. It was a clear day and the sun was extremely bright. There was an abandoned car parked in the westbound lanes on the right shoulder 100 meters away. A black Nissan Micra was parked on the shoulder of the road with moderate damage on the front bumper and severe damage to the rear. The road was dry. It was Monday, April 12. The skid marks ended at the tires of the cube van. There were no injuries.

Report:
On Monday, April 12, around 8:32 am, there was a 4-vehicle accident eastbound on the A206 east of Jameson Avenue. The accident occurred in the right lane during morning rush hour traffic, which was driving into the morning sun. The traffic was heavy, and in a state of stop-and-go. That stretch of the road was flat and straight. The road was dry.
The most likely explanation was that the cube van was approaching slower moving or stopped traffic. The driver of the van was either following too closely, speeding or not paying close enough attention and had to apply his breaks heavily. The van skidded, striking a black Nissan Micra causing severe damage to the front of the cube van and the rear of the Micra. The Micra was then pushed into a blue Golf causing moderate damage to the front of the Micra, and rear of the Golf. The Golf then struck a red Vauxhall Astra, causing light damage to the front of the Golf, and rear of the Vauxhall Astra.
There were no injuries involved in the accident.
