Shayna was wearing a blue skirt, black sweater and red shoes. The parents were in Kew Beach Park by the playground when they lost track of her. Mrs. and Mr. Appleby's house backs onto the park and is a short walk away. They last saw the child playing in the park at 10:45 am and couldn't find her shortly after. The parents searched the playground and went home to give the house a quick look. When they couldn't find her they called police at 11:05 am. Shayna attends the Balmy Beach Public School. Police responded and began an immediate search of the area. The Appleby's stated their child's name was Shayna. Shayna was 5-years-old and had shoulder-length brown hair, brown eyes, and a scar on her left elbow. Police found Shayna in another area of the park at 11:30 am. She had been chasing a squirrel and ran away from her parents. She was unharmed and returned to her parents. The date of the occurrence was Sunday, October 4.
